Would you like to work at one of the most famous and unique attractions in Wales? Join us in 2024 as part of the Snowdon Mountain Railway team. There are full-time seasonal roles available for Catering and Retail Assistants and Supervisors, and Cleaners at Llanberis Station, and up at Hafod Eryri, the summit visitor centre.

Our working day varies through each department, meaning shifts can be long, and you’ll also be working over weekends.

Rolling Stock Fitter / Locomotive Driver

Railway Rolling Stock Fitter

We’re looking to recruit a Rolling Stock Fitter to work at Snowdon Mountain Railway.

The role is full-time and permanent. Our operating season runs from mid-March until the end of October, where you will carry out routine inspections, ad-hoc repairs and servicing to our Locomotives (Diesel & Steam), Carriages, and Associated Rolling Stock.

Out of Season Maintenance (November to Mid-March), you will undertake planned major maintenance on all our rolling stock.

Secondary Role: You will undertake driver training and pass out to operate at least one type of Locomotive. Other duties will include commissioning/decommissioning, repair, and maintenance of Hafod Eryri Summit building CHP and BMS systems.

Essential Qualifications

Formally trained (NVQ Level 3 preferred) and served as a mechanic or plant fitter for two years.

Reporting to the Railway Maintenance Supervisors / Rolling Stock Manager / Railway Operations Manager other responsibilities will include working a flexible policy during the Operating Season where rostered duties can change at short notice as business demands. You’ll also carry out late and standby duties as directed by your line manager. Your hours of work will be an average of 48 hours per week including weekends (March to November).

During the closed season you’ll be working as part of the Maintenance Team on maintenance and repairs as allocated. Your hours of work will be an average of 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday (November to March).

Starting salary: £29,700 pa.
