The railway’s summit service has now recommenced and Hafod Eryri, the summit visitor center, has reopened for the 2024 season.
The railway reopened on the 15th of March, with diesel trains initially travelling to its early season destination Clogwyn Station, ¾ distance up Snowdon, Yr Wyddfa. The diesel service is now running the full distance to the summit, and Hafod Eryri, the summit visitor center, has reopened its doors for the 2024 season. The steam trains will resume service a few weeks later on June the 10th, running weekdays until the 13th of September.
The last few weeks employees have worked hard to recommission Hafod Eryri. With no mains power or water, travel to the summit by train is integral to operate the building, hence why this is a seasonal attraction which closes during the winter. Plus with the harsh winter conditions on the upper mountain, travel by train to the summit is not possible during the winter months.
Vince Hughes, Commercial Manager at Snowdon Mountain Railway said:
“We’re looking forward to another busy season taking passengers to the summit of the highest mountain in Wales, and welcoming passengers and walkers back to the UK’s highest visitor center, Hafod Eryri. Our operations and commercial departments have worked very hard in preparation for our return to the summit.”
