Local schoolchildren help celebrate Snowdon Mountain Railway’s 120th anniversary
Local schoolchildren helped to celebrate Snowdon Mountain Railway’s 120th anniversary recently when they took the train to the summit.
48 pupils from Ysgol Dolbadarn in Llanberis came along to enjoy a leisurely ride to the top of Snowdon, many experiencing the mountain railway for the very first time.
The children waved to walkers taking the tougher route up Snowdon and sang a song of celebration when they reached the Hafod Eryri summit centre.
Bethan Wyn Jones of Ysgol Dolbadarn said:
“The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the views were spectacular.
“We are all so lucky to live in such a beautiful area and the children were inspired into singing most of the way up and most of the way down.
“They gave excellent performances of the National Anthem ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’ and Rugby anthems such as ‘Calon Lan’ and ‘Sospan Fach’.
“Many congratulations to all at the Rheilffordd Y Wyddfa for an excellent 120 years at the heart of Cymru and Eryri. This was the first time up Y Wyddfa for many of our children and it will certainly be a day to remember.”
