As the sun began to rise across Snowdonia on the morning of May 13th, North Wales was awoken with a bang as members of the Royal Artillery fired a 105mm artillery gun from the Snowdon Summit.
The gun was fired three times to mark the Royal Regiment of Artillery’s 300 year anniversary.
It was a big undertaking to transport the gun into position but Snowdon Mountain Railway was able to assist the soldiers in successfully bringing the weapon to the summit
Alan Kendall, Snowdon Mountain Railway’s general manager, said: “It was a huge task to transport the artillery gun to the peak of Snowdon, but we were only too pleased to be able to work with the Royal Artillery to safely move the cannon to and from the summit.
“It was significant that we could help the Royal Artillery mark its 300 year anniversary in the year we celebrate 120 years of Snowdon Mountain Railway.”
