    Charitable Day on Snowdon

    28th June 2011

Visitors to Snowdon Mountain Railway were treated to a lunchtime charity cello concert at the summit held in Hafod Eryri on Saturday (25th June). A total of 13 young musicians, aged between 6 and 15, from Canolfan Cerdd William Mathias (CGWM) based in Galeri, Caernarfon who were led by teacher Nicki Pearce, walked up the summit in aid of Ty Gobaith children’s hospice in Conwy. Snowdon Mountain Railway carried their instruments to the summit on the early morning works train. Whilst the performance was well underway volunteers comprised of 47 adults and 38 children were boarding the 1 p.m. Snowdon Mountain Railway chartered train at the base of the mountain to mark National Breastfeeding Awareness Week. The group is made up of volunteers who have been trained by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the Welsh Government to support breastfeeding in north Wales. Both groups are said to have had an enjoyable and memorable experience. Esther Griffiths of Gwynedd and Mon Breastfeeding supporters who journeyed up to the summit had this to say: “It was really good fun and a great way to raise awareness of breastfeeding”.
