    36th International Snowdon Race

    26th July 2011

Snowdon Mountain Railway was once again proud to sponsor the 36th International Snowdon Race. The event saw 550 runners race to the top of Snowdon, a 10-mile course to the summit and back. Setting off from Cae’r Ddol on the shores of Llyn Padarn, the weather was resoundingly perfect for such an event, with bright sunshine throughout. The race attracted large crowds keen to see both the adult and under 16 events. The Snowdon Race has only this year become part of the International Skyrunner World Series, a championship dedicated to high altitude endurance races, which will only to help to improve the ever growing calibre and profile of the event. The winner of this year’s 36th International Snowdon Race was Andi Jones, gaining his fifth win to reclaim the title after his enviable consecutive streak from 2006 to 2009. The Manchester based runner, who is also a full time Design & Technology teacher, had this to say: “It means everything to me in winning this race. I’ve competed all over the world, and though this may sound as if I’m simply just saying this, I really find Snowdon Race to be my favourite.” Jones came 1st in a time of 1:05:56 – a few minutes short of the 26-year-old record of 1:02:30. “The people of Llanberis all come out, it’s a great event which is now international. It’s so well set up now and so well developed.” Back to Recent News
