    2011 Season Almost Here

    08th March 2011

2011 Season opens 19th March. The 2011 season is fast approaching and the busy winter maintenance period is nearly complete. The weather in January and February has been relatively kind allowing the permanent way team to replace a large section of track between Hebron and Halfway. Track work is now underway on the upper section of the mountain above Clogwyn. As ever, the locomotives require a vast amount of maintenance over the winter. Locomotive No.9, Ninian (pictured) has had major work as has locomotive number 12. Furthermore, extensive work is underway replacing the boiler of locomotive number 6. The remaining steam locomotives, 2, 3 and 4, have also undergone various degrees of maintenance over the winter. The picture shows Ninian's body being being lifted back onto the gearbox before the whole assembly is re-united with the chassis. The running season will begin on the Saturday 19th March and trains will run to Clogwyn which is 3/4 distance up Snowdon. Commissioning will then begin on the Summit building which we hope to open for Easter. The railway has only operated to the Summit by Easter twice in the last 50 years, so we hope the weather will allow us to make it a third time! Back to Recent News
