There are two services are available: heritage steam and traditional diesel.
Pushed by an original steam locomotive from 1896, the carriages on our steam service are accurate re-constructions of the carriages of 1896.
Today’s visitor can enjoy the original Victorian experience as they journey to the Summit of Snowdon. We have three departures daily from May to the end of September and pre-booking is advised. The return journey takes two and a half hours including a 30 minute stop- over at the Summit.
Our new passenger carriages for our diesel locos came in to service in 2013 and ensure that visitors to North Wales will continue to enjoy the unique Snowdon Mountain Railway experience for many years to come.
Trains leave Llanberis station daily from mid-March until the end of October every 30 minutes from 9am subject to passenger demand and weather conditions.
In March and April the normal destination is not the summit but Clogwyn which is the 3/4 point on the mountain. The journey time to Clogwyn is approximately 45 minutes and passengers have a 30 minute stop-over at this unsheltered station. There are no facilities at Clogwyn or on board the trains.
From May onwards our usual destination is Hafod Eryri Visitor Centre at the Summit of Snowdon .The return journey takes two and a half hours including a 30 minute stop-over at the summit.
Advanced sales can be made online or by telephone ( each booking is subject to £3.50 administration charge ). We recommend customers arrive 30 minutes prior to travel to collect pre-booked tickets.
Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable so please check the weather forecast before making a booking. During school holidays, or on fine weather days, the railway can be extremely busy and advanced booking is recommended. On very busy days all trains may be sold out by mid-morning. If you have not pre-booked tickets, avoid unnecessary travel and disappointment by calling +44(0)1286 870 223 to check availability.
Weather permitting, trains will run every day from mid-March until the end of October. From March to early May trains will terminate at the unsheltered Clogwyn Station. The Summit Station is the usual destination between May and the end of the season. When the Summit is the destination passengers are not allowed to board or disembark at any other passing point.
